Brazil advances two regional road projects linking Camalaú–Monteiro and Santa Rosa do Purus–Manoel Urbano

A technical visit by the Departamento de Estradas de Rodagem da Paraíba (DER-PB) marked a new step in the PB‑196 project that will connect the municipalities of Camalaú and Monteiro in the Cariri region. Officials evaluated the proposed road alignment and a peripheral bypass to manage future traffic, aiming to improve mobility, stimulate local commerce and strengthen regional integration.

In Acre, a resident‑recorded video shows more than 80 km of a forest‑cut road segment intended to link Santa Rosa do Purus with Manoel Urbano. No agency has officially confirmed that construction has resumed, and the project remains under environmental review. Indigenous and traditional communities have raised concerns about the lack of prior informed consultation, and the Federal Public Ministry has called for a halt to related consultations. The road promises to cut transportation costs for the isolated towns, but its future depends on pending environmental and legal assessments.
