Brazil road, waterway, and rail infrastructure projects
Overview
In mid-August 2026, Brazil’s infrastructure landscape saw significant progress in road concessions and regional logistics. The Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) unanimously approved the continuation of the Rota Agro Central concession process, covering 887.6 km of highways (BR-070, BR-174, and BR-364) across Mato Grosso and Rondônia. This follows an eight-month suspension to better integrate road logistics with regional railways. An auction for this project is expected in December 2026. Additionally, the Ministry of Transport is launching the concession edict for the BR-060 (Rota do Pequi) between Goiânia and Brasília, with other auctions like Rota 2 de Julho also planned for year-end.
Regional projects continue to advance. In Mato Grosso do Sul, a bidding notice was published for engineering studies for a road bypass in Jardim to connect BR-267 and BR-060 as part of the Rota Bioceânica. In São Paulo, the environmental agency Cetesb requested impact studies for the reactivation of the 223.6-km railway line between Santos and Cajati, a CPTM-managed project intended for passenger and freight transport.
Construction updates include the viaduct in Esteio, Rio Grande do Sul, which is 98% complete but facing delays due to rain. In São Paulo, the BRT Radial Leste project has entered a 120-day phase, causing partial closures on Avenida Alcântara Machado. This 9.8-km line, funded by R$ 385.9 million, aims to connect Terminal Parque Dom Pedro II with the Penha metro station, potentially reducing travel times by up to 50%.
