Brazil agricultural sectors see growth in ethanol and bioinputs

Brazil is seeing significant growth in its agricultural biotechnology and biofuel sectors. Corn ethanol production is projected to reach 11.8 billion liters in the 2026/27 harvest, a 14.6% increase from the previous season. This expansion is driven by increased industrial capacity, with 33 production units currently operating in the country. Beyond land transport, ethanol is emerging as a potential decarbonization tool for the maritime industry, with a potential market of 50 billion liters by 2050.

Simultaneously, the use of bioinputs in Brazilian agriculture has expanded, with 46 million hectares treated during the first half of 2026, marking an 18.3% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The biological products market generated R$ 1.8 billion in the first six months of the year. Bioinsecticides led the sector, accounting for 47% of sales and 35% of the treated area, largely due to second-crop corn planting.
