Brazil allocates over R$ 8.5 million in disaster relief to municipalities in Pernambuco, Paraíba and Rio Grande do Sul

The Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR), through the National Civil Protection Secretariat, approved a total of R$ 8.5 million for emergency response in three municipalities – Santa Rita (Paraíba) R$ 891,425, Goiana (Pernambuco) R$ 1,088,967 and Alecrim (Rio Grande do Sul) R$ 372,075 – as well as additional resources for the state of Paraíba. The funds were released via official orders in the Diário Oficial da União and are intended for municipalities declared in a state of emergency or public calamity.

In Pernambuco, the state government’s Civil Defense agency distributed more than 16,500 humanitarian items, including mattresses, sheets, hygiene kits and cleaning supplies, to municipalities hit by heavy rains in early May and the recent weekend. The aid, delivered to São Vicente Férrer among other towns, addresses the 248 people currently homeless and the 4,202 displaced families. "The Government of Pernambuco remains mobilized to guarantee support to families affected by the rains," said Clóvis Ramalho, the state’s executive secretary for Protection and Civil Defense.
