Brazil allows CIN to replace passports for South American tourism

Brazilian citizens can travel for tourism to eight South American countries without a passport by using the new National Identity Card (CIN). This privilege applies to Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay, based on international agreements within Mercosul or its associated members.

The Federal Police specify that the CIN must have been issued within the last 10 years and include a photograph that allows for full identification of the holder. While a digital version of the CIN is available via the gov.br app, travelers must carry the physical document, as digital versions are not accepted for migratory controls.

This passport exemption is strictly for tourism. For other purposes such as work, study, or residency, a passport may still be required by immigration authorities.
