Brazil expands CIN rollout and digital services

Entities: Carteira Digital de Trânsito (CDT) · National Identity Card (CIN) · Senior Parking Credential · Brazilian Government

Overview

Brazil’s Carteira de Identidade Nacional (CIN) programme continues its rapid expansion beyond the initial Manaus pilot. Throughout July 2026, free issuance events were held at the three‑day "Paraná em Ação" service fair in Cornélio Procópio (21‑23 July) and a Viana (Espírito Santo) mutirão on 30 July, where tokens were distributed on a first‑come basis to residents aged 14 and over. Applicants provide original birth or marriage certificates, CPF and proof of residence, with optional documents such as voter registration or driver’s licence.

In parallel, the State Secretariat of Justice and Public Security together with the State Secretariat of Education opened Identification Posts in four Indigenous public schools and the Itamarati settlement in Mato Grosso do Sul. Sessions on 30 July (Itamarati) and 31 July (Jaguapiru and Te’yikue) allow Indigenous residents to obtain the first‑issue CIN free of charge, reducing travel burdens.

Digital services were added on 25 July when authorities launched a mobile‑app channel for CIN applications. The app lets users locate service points, schedule appointments, pre‑enter data and track issuance, though an in‑person visit remains required for biometric capture. The same platform also enables seniors (60+) to obtain free senior‑parking credentials entirely online via the Carteira Digital de Trânsito (CDT) app.

The rollout aims for nationwide coverage, with free cards valid nationwide and a QR code on the back that provides partial or full reads depending on authentication. Validity periods remain five years for children under 12, ten years for ages 12‑59, and indefinite for seniors; the older RG will be phased out by February 2032.
