Brazil expands CIN rollout and digital sovereignty efforts

Overview

In the Grande Vitória region, municipalities are hosting free registration drives in partnership with the Scientific Police, utilizing both itinerant events and fixed posts to facilitate issuance. In Paraíba, the CIN has emerged as the most accessed service on the Paraíba Digital portal, surpassing driver's license renewals.

Beyond identification, Brazil is advancing broader digital sovereignty and inclusion initiatives. The Ministry of Communications has launched a public consultation for the National Digital Inclusion Plan (PNID), focusing on infrastructure expansion, device access, digital skills, and governance. Additionally, discussions are underway regarding a ‘Brazilian Cloud’ to strengthen national control over data processing and storage, moving beyond the current Government Cloud managed by Serpro and Dataprev.
