Cuba draws solidarity rallies in Switzerland, Spain, Brazil and marks 40 years of Brazil ties

Hundreds gathered in Bern, Switzerland, on June 23 to protest the United States' economic war and intervention against Cuba. Organized by the Swiss‑Cuba Association and other groups, demonstrators carried Cuban flags, chanted slogans against sanctions and aired a message from Aleida Guevara despite temperatures near 35 °C.

In Barcelona, Spain, dozens assembled outside the European Union headquarters on June 25 under the banner “Desperta Europa! Deixeu viure a Cuba”. The rally, part of a Europe‑wide solidarity caravan that had visited Italy, Brussels, Germany and France, denounced EU measures seen as aligned with U.S. policy and called for dialogue with the island.

São Paulo, Brazil, hosted a caravana of cars and a bicicletada that converged on Avenida Paulista during the National Solidarity Day with Cuba. Organized by the Movimento Paulista de Solidariedade com Cuba and parties such as the PCdoB and PT, participants protested U.S. sanctions, highlighting shortages of fuel, medicines and food on the island.

Separately, Brazil and Cuba marked the 40th anniversary of restored diplomatic relations. The Brazilian foreign ministry announced the forthcoming inauguration of “Casa Brasil” in Havana, a cultural centre intended to showcase Brazilian arts, host seminars and strengthen educational exchanges.
