Brazil begins final PIS/Pasep wage bonus and Bolsa Família payments

Brazil is processing several major social benefit payments. The final installment of the 2026 PIS/Pasep wage bonus (abono salarial) for the 2024 base year began on Monday, August 17. This final batch distributes R$ 5.2 billion to approximately 4.1 million workers born in November and December. The benefit, which ranges from R$ 136 to R$ 1,621 depending on months worked, is paid to private sector employees via Caixa Econômica Federal and public servants via Banco do Brasil. Funds are available for withdrawal until December 30, 2026.

Simultaneously, the Bolsa Família program has commenced its August payment cycle, starting August 18 for beneficiaries with NIS ending in 1. Payments follow a schedule based on the final digit of the Social Identification Number (NIS) through August 31. The program targets families with a per capita income of up to R$ 218.

These disbursements occur amid reports from Serasa Experian indicating financial pressure on Brazilian workers, with 53% of respondents stating they struggle to cover all monthly expenses with their salaries.
