Brazil approves law to speed sale of seized organized‑crime assets

Brazil's Public Security and Combat Against Organized Crime Commission approved Bill 6670/25, aiming to accelerate the auction of assets seized from criminal groups. The bill, authored by Deputy Amom Mandel and reported by Deputy Capitão Alberto Neto, establishes mandatory auction timelines of 15‑30 days for general cases, with stricter deadlines of up to 15 days for high‑value items and 20 days for assets seized after a final conviction. Interested parties have a 90‑day window to claim items after a court decision; otherwise the goods are auctioned within 30 days. Proceeds from the sales will be directed straight to the respective state and Federal District security funds, bolstering the Unified Public Security System (SUSP). The proposal now moves to the Finance, Taxation and Constitution committees before requiring approval by the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
