Brazil banks suspend in-person services for October 12 holiday

Bank branches across Brazil will be closed for in-person service on Monday, October 12, due to the national holiday of Our Lady of Aparecida. Regular in-person operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, October 13, in locations without additional state or municipal holidays.

While physical branches are closed, digital channels remain operational. According to the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), Pix services will function normally 24 hours a day. Customers can also use mobile banking apps, internet banking, ATMs, telephone services, and banking correspondents.

Transactions requiring bank compensation, such as TED transfers, checks, and boleto payments, can be scheduled during the holiday but will only be processed on the next business day. For utility bills (water, electricity, telephone) due on October 12, payments made on the following business day will not incur interest or fines. However, taxes and duties must be paid in advance to avoid penalties.
