Brazil Nossa Senhora Aparecida holiday service adjustments

Overview

Brazil is preparing for the Nossa Senhora Aparecida national holiday on October 12, which will result in various service adjustments across the country.

Banking services will see physical branches closed for in-person operations, with regular service expected to resume on October 13. While physical locations are closed, the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) notes that digital channels, including Pix, internet banking, mobile apps, and ATMs, will remain operational 24 hours a day. Transactions requiring compensation, such as TED transfers and checks, will be processed on the next business day. Additionally, utility bills due on the holiday can be paid on the following business day without penalties, though taxes and duties must be paid in advance.

Transportation and public services are also implementing changes. In Paraná and Minas Gerais, authorities are implementing traffic restrictions for heavy cargo vehicles to improve safety and flow. In Sergipe, the government is expanding intermunicipal bus fleets, while in Recife, bus lines are being redirected due to construction. Various municipalities are also adjusting health unit and municipal office hours to accommodate the holiday.
