Brazil basic food basket prices fall in Cuiabá and Salvador

In the city of Cuiabá, the basic food basket price for July fell to an average of R$ 870.98, a 3.82% drop from the last week of June and 4.59% lower than the same period last year. Prices of key items fell sharply, with tomatoes down 19.39% week‑on‑week and 4.99% year‑on‑year, potatoes down 7.27%, and rice down 3.59%.

In Salvador, the basic food basket for June decreased 0.80% to R$ 651.78, ending a five‑month rise. Thirteen of the 25 items recorded price cuts, led by calabrese sausage (‑7.96%), apples (‑7.57%) and onions (‑5.05%). At the same time, twelve items rose, most notably corn flakes (+15.64%) and carrots (+8.38%). Analysts linked the mixed movements to weather conditions, production cycles and internal‑external demand dynamics.
