Brazil Becomes World’s Largest Importer of Chinese Vehicles
In the first five months of 2026 Brazil imported US$5.2 billion worth of cars from China, a 146.9 % increase over the same period a year earlier. The surge pushed Brazil ahead of Russia to become the world’s top destination for Chinese‑manufactured automobiles. Chinese automaker Geely expanded its footprint, opening its 40th dealership in Brazil and now serving 49 cities across 23 states, with a goal of 90 % national coverage by the end of 2026. In Brazil’s Northeast region, imports of Chinese cars rose 815 % between the first halves of 2025 and 2026, underscoring the broader re‑orientation of Brazil‑China automotive trade.
