Brazil expands beef export markets to Indonesia and the United States

The Brazilian meat industry is undergoing significant market shifts as exporters seek to diversify destinations. A major development is the authorization of 21 new Brazilian establishments to export beef and offal to Indonesia, increasing the total number of approved plants from 52 to 73. This move targets Indonesia’s population of over 280 million people.

Simultaneously, Brazil is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the United States market. An emergency quota of 300,000 tons of beef without tariffs has been opened in the U.S. to combat food inflation, with Brazilian exporters potentially capturing between 30% and 40% of this volume. This comes as the U.S. faces a structural shortage in its cattle herd.

These shifts occur as Brazil manages a sharp decline in exports to China, which fell by over 80% in August due to the rapid fulfillment of Chinese import quotas. To mitigate this, Brazilian producers are increasing shipments to alternative markets including the United States, Russia, Italy, and the United Arab Emirates.
