Brazil beef market faces export quota shifts and tightsupply

Overview

Through September 2026, Brazil’s beef market has been defined by record-breaking exchange ratios and shifting export dynamics. The indicator measuring the number of beef cattle arrobas required to purchase a calf reached an August average of 9.69, surpassing the previous 2023 record of 9.40.

Export trends have become increasingly volatile. While exporters previously hit a 1.1 million ton annual quota, beef shipments to China saw a sharp decline in August due to the rapid fulfillment of Chinese import quotas. To mitigate this, Brazil is actively diversifying its markets. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has authorized 21 new establishments to export beef and offal to Indonesia, increasing the total number of approved plants from 52 to 73. Additionally, exporters are looking toward the United States, where an emergency quota of 300,000 tons of tariff-free beef has been opened to combat U.S. food inflation. Brazilian exporters are positioned to potentially capture 30% to 40% of this volume, targeting markets including Russia, Italy, and the United Arab Emirates.

Market prices show signs of recovery. The price of fat cattle has returned to the R$ 350 per arroba level, a threshold not seen since early August, supported by a steady slaughter schedule. In the futures market, B3 data suggests a potential rise of approximately R$ 30 per arroba starting in October due to projected supply decreases. Despite rising average prices per ton, September data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade shows that daily average export revenue fell by 22.5% and shipped volume dropped by 29.1% compared to the previous year.

Claims

What the coverage asserts, and how many sources carry each claim.

Coverage disagrees

Sources make claims that cannot both be true. CLSTR reports the disagreement; it does not decide who is right.

  • "Beef shipments to China fell by 47% in July compared to the same month in 2025 due to quota limits."

    vs

"Chinese imports of Brazilian beef fell by 48% in July." www.cnnbrasil.com.br

The claims provide different percentage decreases for Chinese imports of Brazilian beef in July (47% vs 48%).

  • "The arroba of beef in Feira de Santana closed July at R$330."

    vs

"The beef arroba price in Feira de Santana closed July at R$330 per arroba."

While they assert the same value, they are technically redundant; however, no direct logical contradiction exists between these two specific IDs, but they represent the same fact.
