Brazil beef prices rise while pork prices hit decade low

Brazil's cattle market showed price gains on June 9, with higher quotations reported in several Midwest and North locations such as Goiânia, Dourados, Campo Grande, parts of Mato Grosso, Paraná, Tocantins and Acre. Analysts linked the rise to colder temperatures, ongoing Chinese quota allocations and the expectation that 80% of Brazil's export quota to China has been filled, prompting processors to test lower price levels and reduce bonuses.

In contrast, the live‑pig market fell to its lowest real price since 2012, with the São Paulo SP‑5 reference reaching R$ 5.26 per kg in May. Weak domestic demand, a slowdown in pork exports and excess supply pressured prices across key producing states, including São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. While wholesale pork carcass prices remained relatively stable, the overall environment signaled tighter margins for pig producers.
