Bolsa Família begins August payments for 19.3 million Brazilian families
The Brazilian government has commenced the August payment cycle for the Bolsa Família social program. Approximately 19.3 million families, representing nearly 49 million people, are set to receive benefits this month, with an average payment value of R$ 678.35. The monthly federal disbursement for the program is approximately R$ 12.7 billion.
Payments are being released according to the final digit of the beneficiaries' Social Identification Number (NIS). For example, those with NIS ending in 3 are scheduled to receive their credits on Thursday, August 20. In 186 municipalities across seven states—Amazonas, Bahia, Paraíba, Paraná, Rio Grande do Norte, Roraima, and Sergipe—payments were unified and released early due to declared states of emergency or calamity.
The program guarantees a minimum of R$ 600 per family, with additional supplements available for specific family compositions, such as the Nutriz Variable Family Benefit for mothers of infants, and extra amounts for families with pregnant women or young children. Additionally, the August cycle includes the Auxílio Gás benefit, which covers 100% of the average cost of a 13 kg gas cylinder for eligible families.
Separately, the National Social Security Institute (INSS) has also released its August payment schedule. Beneficiaries receiving up to the minimum wage will receive payments between August 25 and September 8, while those receiving above the minimum wage will be paid between September 1 and September 8, based on their benefit card numbers.
