Brazil begins textbook selection for early childhood education

Public schools in Brazil have begun the selection process for the National Textbook and Pedagogical Material Program (PNLD) for the 2026-2029 triennium. The selection period for early childhood education materials, covering nurseries and preschools, runs from September 13 until October 31.

Managed by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and the National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE), the program provides free literary, informative, and pedagogical support materials to public schools nationwide. The materials are designed to align with the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC).

School directors are the only individuals authorized to access the PNLD Management system via the Gov.br platform to make selections. The process requires schools to have previously adhered to the program and to have students registered in the 2025 School Census. Directors are encouraged to consult with teachers and coordinators to ensure selected works meet the specific pedagogical needs and age requirements of their local student population.
