Brazil cracks down on illegal betting, probing CazéTV and blocking accounts
The Ministry of Justice’s consumer protection unit (Senacon) opened a preliminary investigation into the livestreaming channel CazéTV for possible abusive advertising of sports betting during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The probe cites three episodes in which commentators urged viewers to place bets, promoted “turbo‑odds” and displayed QR codes, actions that may breach Brazil’s betting‑advertising rules that forbid inducements to gamble impulsively or suggest easy winnings.
Separately, the Conselho Monetário Nacional (CMN) approved a resolution that obliges banks and payment institutions to block the accounts of operators offering illegal fixed‑odds betting. Upon notification from the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA), financial entities must freeze the accounts within 24 hours, restricting deposits, savings, prepaid and registration accounts. The measure, effective 28 August, aims to curb unlicensed betting platforms, with any seized funds directed to the National Public Safety Fund.
