Brazil bioenergy sector expands with major investments in biomethane and ethanol

Brazil is experiencing a significant expansion in its bioenergy and bioeconomy sectors, driven by investments in biomethane, ethanol, and bioinputs. ABiogás projects R$ 216 billion in private investments in biogas and biomethane by 2035, which could create over 251,000 direct jobs and reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 230 million tons annually.

Infrastructure for renewable fuels is expanding rapidly. Ultragaz has inaugurated its first proprietary biomethane refueling station in Paulínia, SP, to decarbonize its heavy logistics fleet. Similarly, Compagas has partnered with Cia Verde to implement gas refueling points to support heavy transport. In Minas Gerais, Gasgrid has opened the state's first biomethane station in Uberlândia to serve commercial fleets.

The corn ethanol industry is also seeing massive growth, particularly in Mato Grosso, which is becoming a major industrial hub for biofuels. Furthermore, the bioinput market is gaining traction, with the sector expected to reach nearly R$ 10 billion by 2030, though experts note that continued growth depends on technological advancement and regulatory frameworks.
