Brazil-Bolivia border wildfire spreads in Pantanal

A wildfire that ignited on 15 July in the Forte Coimbra area near Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul, quickly expanded under strong winds and low humidity. By 17 July the flames crossed the international border, reaching Bolivia's Otuquis Integrated Management Area and the Otuquis National Park.

Joint firefighting teams from Brazil's Corpo de Bombeiros Militar and Bolivia's navy and protected‑areas service were deployed. The Brazilian task force includes three vehicles and twelve firefighters, supported by aircraft and ground crews. The fire continues to burn in the Bolivian conservation area while remaining contained on the Brazilian side, with no casualties reported.

The incident underscores the shared risks of the Pantanal biome, where fires frequently cross borders due to continuous vegetation and similar climatic conditions.
