Brazil boosts disability inclusion with free course and forum
The São Paulo State Secretariat of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (SEDPcD) announced that registrations are open for a free Basic Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) course. The online classes will begin on 12 August 2026 via Zoom, are taught by deaf instructors, and aim to improve communication for the more than 592,000 people with hearing loss in the state.
In the municipality of Marechal Cândido Rondon, the Municipal Council of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COMUDER) will hold its first Disability Rights Forum on 21 August. The event will gather people with disabilities, families, professionals and public officials to discuss accessibility, education, health and social assistance, and to draft the municipality’s first Disability Rights Plan. Six representatives will be elected to join the plan‑drafting commission.
