Brazil expands vocational, technical, and leadership access
Overview
Brazil continues to expand its vocational, technical, and entrepreneurship training landscape through municipal, state, and federal initiatives. Federal Institutes (IFs) are scaling undergraduate and technical offerings for 2027, while Sebrae’s ‘ALI Produtividade’ program supports digital transformation for micro and small enterprises.
Entrepreneurship and leadership support for women are seeing significant growth. Beyond the evaluation of the ‘Sala da Mulher Empreendedora’ model, new training opportunities have emerged, such as Sicoob’s free courses in Jacobina and NewCo’s ‘Impulso Mulheres’ program in São Paulo. In Brasília, UNECS facilitated dialogue between business leaders and presidential candidates regarding female political representation. Additionally, the ProGestores webinar series has focused on female leadership within public management.
Municipal efforts targeting income generation through the creative economy remain active. In Sinop, the ‘De Olho no Óleo’ project, a partnership between the City Hall and Águas de Sinop, trained approximately 50 women to transform used cooking oil into soap to promote environmental education and financial independence. Regional workshops also include embroidery and fashion customization in Quissamã, and culinary entrepreneurship training in Campo Grande, which recently focused on Bolivian cuisine.
Legislative and institutional support is advancing. The Chamber of Deputies' Commission on Social Security has approved a bill to create the ‘Program for the Incentive to Hire Atypical Mothers,’ offering tax benefits to companies hiring women responsible for children or adolescents with disabilities. Meanwhile, the National Observatory of Women in Politics has reached five years of monitoring gender equality and political violence.
