Brazil extends Desenrola debt program deadline to Aug 31
The Ministry of Finance, led by Finance Minister Dario Durigan, issued a portaria published in the Official Gazette on 1 May extending the deadline for the Desenrola Brasil 2.0 debt‑renegotiation program. Consumers can now renegotiate bank debts and restore credit access until 31 August, with the program’s rules unchanged.
The extension applies only to financial institutions that had at least 1,000 credit operations guaranteed by the Fundo de Garantia de Operações (FGO) by 30 July. Durigan stressed that no additional public funds are required because existing FGO resources are sufficient. The measure aims to give borrowers still in negotiation more time to complete settlements.
Beneficiaries highlighted include app drivers, taxi drivers, delivery workers and truckers, many of whom may use the linked Move Brasil program to finance vehicle purchases. By late July, roughly R$ 22 billion in debts had already been renegotiated in 3.6 million operations, affecting about 9 million families.
