Brazil boosts horticulture and coffee output with soil‑health and irrigation technologies

In Brazil's horticultural regions such as São Gotardo and Santa Juliana in Minas Gerais, producers are adopting advanced irrigation systems and soil‑health solutions from Hydroplan‑EB. Products like Mikro HF, HB10 DRIP and HB10 PIVOT aim to strengthen root systems, improve water use efficiency and mitigate climate‑induced stresses, leading to higher yields and profitability for crops like garlic, carrot and onion.

A parallel initiative, the Sustainable Coffee Project led by Syngenta and JDE Peet’s, is testing regenerative practices on 30 coffee farms across the Cerrado Mineiro, Sul de Minas and Mogiana regions. In its second year, farms saw productivity gains of up to 55 % (from 26.1 to 40.6 bags ha⁻¹) and quality improvements measured by the Specialty Coffee Association score. The program also reduced nematode presence by up to 71 %, highlighting the benefits of soil‑health management for both yield and bean quality.

These efforts illustrate a broader shift in Brazilian agriculture toward technology‑driven, sustainable practices that address climate challenges while enhancing economic returns.
