Brazil boosts internet access for schools and rural areas with new connectivity programs
The federal Aprender Conectado program has connected 24,000 public schools across Brazil with high‑speed internet, Wi‑Fi and solar power, targeting remote, Indigenous, quilombola and vulnerable urban communities. The initiative, coordinated by the Ministries of Education and Communications, aims to reach about 40,000 schools as part of the National Strategy for Connected Schools, ultimately covering roughly 138,000 schools nationwide.
In the state of Paraná, Governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior announced a partnership with telecommunications company Vivo that will invest R$192 million to install 411 new mobile antennas in 74 municipalities by the end of 2027. The rollout will extend broadband and 4G/5G coverage along major highways such as BR‑277 and to rural areas, adding more than 580 km of mobile reach. The project is expected to benefit farmers, students, remote residents and travelers with improved digital services, telemedicine and agricultural technology.
