Brazil business confidence indices decline in September

Business confidence indicators in Brazil showed a decline in September. The Business Confidence Index (ICE) calculated by FGV IBRE fell by 1.2 points to 89.3, reflecting a downward trend across the industry, construction, services, and commerce sectors. The most significant drop occurred in commerce, which fell 2.9 points to 81.3.

Simultaneously, the National Confederation of Trade (CNC) reported that the Trade Entrepreneur Confidence Index (Icec) dropped from 101.3 points in August to 100.0 points in September. This decline was driven by a 1.3% monthly drop in confidence within the semi-durable goods segment, including clothing and footwear, partly due to changing import tax dynamics.

Despite these declines, the CNC noted that the trade environment remains more favorable than the same period last year, with durable goods seeing a 3.9% annual increase and retail hiring intentions remaining positive.
