Regional economic developments in Brazil
Overview
Economic activity in various Brazilian regions shows diverse patterns of development and growth. In Petrópolis, the Fazendas Secretário residential project has finished its first phase, attracting buyers primarily from Rio de Janeiro. Concurrently, Apucarana has allocated land in the Juruba Industrial Park to five companies through a local economic development program, an initiative expected to generate R$ 9.1 million in investment and 112 direct jobs. Other regions report different trends. São José experienced a 16.5% increase in registered companies, though nearly 89% of this growth is attributed to individual micro-entrepreneurs. In the Jundiaí region, the industrial sector reported a record trade flow of US$ 8.65 billion from January to August, driven by high-tech electronic component imports and re-exports.
National economic indicators for July show mixed results. The service sector remained stable with 0% variation compared to June, maintaining a 1.9% increase for the year and a 2.4% increase over the last 12 months. Tourism rose by 2.7%, though it remains 3.8% below the December 2024 peak.
Industrial production and revenue have faced downturns. CNI data indicates that real manufacturing turnover fell by 2% in July compared to June, with revenue over the first seven months of the year decreasing by 0.5% compared to 2025. This decline is attributed to high interest rates and increased household debt. While industrial employment saw a slight monthly increase of 0.2%, it has decreased by 0.6% over the last year. Operational indicators show that capacity utilization (UCI) remained relatively stable at 77.4% in July, though cumulative data from January to July shows hours worked in production fell by 1% and capacity utilization decreased by 0.8 percentage points compared to the previous year.
