Brazil campaigns against child sexual abuse held in Sergipe and Bahia

On 29 May, organizations from rural and urban sectors formed the State Committee to Combat Sexual Violence Against Children and Adolescents in Sergipe and led a public walk through the centre of Aracaju. Participants, including CUT‑SE director Bernadete Pinheiro, called for greater public education, reporting of suspected cases and stronger protection measures for minors. The march highlighted existing protection networks and urged families, government bodies and the community to work together, mentioning reporting channels such as Disque 100, local Tutelary Councils and the police.

The following day, 28 May, the CRAS Liberdade in Bahia hosted a workshop for 62 attendees that combined a lecture and discussion led by staff from the specialised social assistance centre (CREAS) and the local social assistance centre (CRAS). The session addressed how to recognise signs of sexual abuse, the impact on child development, and the role of families, communities and public services in prevention and support. Attendees received information on legal and social resources for reporting and assisting victims.
