Brazil cattle prices hit records amid US quota and Chinese demand

Brazilian cattle prices have reached successive nominal records, driven by a combination of domestic supply cycles and increased international demand. The Datagro indicator in São Paulo reached R$ 376.13 per arroba, while the Cepea/Esalq indicator closed at R$ 376.30, marking a 3.29% monthly increase.

Key drivers for the price surge include a lower supply due to the livestock cycle and the resumption of demand from China. Additionally, a new US policy implemented on September 1—providing a 300,000-ton additional quota for lean beef without tariffs—has significantly boosted Brazilian exports to the United States. Beef sales to the US in September rose by 389% compared to the same month in 2025, reaching 48,300 tons.

In the futures market, the premium for October 2026 cattle has declined to approximately R$ 10.0 per arroba, as physical market prices rise more sharply than future contracts. Furthermore, live cattle exports from Brazil through September 2026 have nearly doubled compared to the same period in 2025.
