Brazil Agribusiness: Beef prices rise as soybean areas expand in Matopiba

The Brazilian agribusiness sector is experiencing diverse market shifts across various commodities. In the livestock sector, beef prices have shown resilience, with the CEPEA/ESALQ indicator rising 3.1% in August due to restricted supply of animals ready for slaughter. Conversely, the live hog market has faced significant downward pressure, with prices dropping nearly 50% since the end of 2025 due to record production.

In grain markets, soybean cultivation is expanding significantly in the Matopiba region, particularly in Piauí and Maranhão, which added approximately 43,000 hectares in the 2025/26 season. Meanwhile, corn markets are navigating the end of the safrinha harvest, with producers focusing on market absorption and export dynamics. On the international stage, wheat futures in Chicago have fluctuated in response to potential peace negotiations regarding the conflict in Ukraine.

Other notable trends include a slight recovery in chicken meat prices driven by domestic demand and exports, and a decline in the purchasing power of egg producers due to rising feed costs. Additionally, the Garantia-Safra program has reached record participation in Piauí, supporting 88,805 families to mitigate climate-related production losses.
