Brazil celebrates 117 years of Professional and Technological Education

Brazil celebrates 117 years of Professional and Technological Education (EPT) and the National EPT Day on September 23. The movement traces its origins to 1909, when President Nilo Peçanha established 19 schools for apprentices and artisans.

The Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education has evolved to integrate vocational training with science, research, and innovation. Currently, the sector includes approximately 3.1 million enrollments in technical secondary education and about 2 million students in technological undergraduate courses.

Marcelo Bregagnoli, Secretary of Professional and Technological Education at the Ministry of Education, noted that the modality is designed to align training with local productive and social arrangements, contributing to regional development and income generation.
