Brazil professional and technological education development

Overview

Brazil is marking 117 years of Professional and Technological Education (EPT), a movement dating back to 1909 when President Nilo Peçanha established 19 schools for artisans and apprentices. The sector has evolved into a Federal Network that integrates vocational training with science, research, and innovation.

Recent data indicates significant growth in the field. In 2025, vocational enrollments increased by 24%, reaching 3.18 million students. The current educational landscape includes approximately 3.1 million enrollments in technical secondary education and roughly 2 million students in technological undergraduate courses.

To bridge the gap between education and the labor market, various initiatives are active across the country. These include the Pronatec program, which offers vacancies in sustainability and bioeconomy, and specialized training through Senai and the Petrobras Autonomia e Renda program. Marcelo Bregagnoli, Secretary of Professional and Technological Education at the Ministry of Education, stated that the modality is intended to align training with local productive and social arrangements to support regional development.
