Brazil celebrates Dessert Day amid rising sweet consumption trends

October 9 marks Dessert Day, highlighting a significant trend in Brazilian consumption habits. According to a Mintel survey, 57% of Brazilian consumers eat sweets after lunch, while 36% do so after dinner. Many associate sweets with leisure or as a form of reward.

Economic data from Kantar indicates that indulgent categories grew in 2024, with chocolate sales increasing by 3.6% and biscuits by 2%, even as consumers remain budget-conscious. This demand has fueled entrepreneurial growth, such as Senhorita Confeitaria in São Paulo, which manages approximately 7,000 monthly delivery sales.

In Fortaleza, the culinary sector is responding to the occasion with diverse offerings. Restaurants like DOC Cucina, Pizza & Vino are focusing on Italian classics such as Millefoglie and Tiramisù, while others like Jêrei Restô are incorporating Brazilian ingredients to blend traditional and contemporary flavors.
