Brazil celebrates first female Army recruits during Soldier's Day parade

During Soldier's Day celebrations in Brasília, the Brazilian Army marked a historic milestone with the participation of the first female recruits in a military parade. This follows the implementation of the Female Initial Military Service program, which began in 2026 after a selection process in 2025. Out of 1,467 women selected for the three branches of the Armed Forces, 1,010 were assigned to the Army.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva described the event as a symbol of national sovereignty, stating that Brazilian women are ready to defend the country. He emphasized that the expansion of female roles in the military reflects a modern Brazil that rejects barriers.

In addition to the inclusion of women, the ceremony showcased new technologies, including drones and advanced systems. President Lula also highlighted strategic investments in the national defense industry through the New Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), aimed at boosting the domestic production of ships, submarines, and aircraft to strengthen national security and create skilled jobs.
