Brazilian Chamber Commission approves firearm rights and missing persons protocol
The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies' Public Security Commission has approved two significant legislative proposals.
First, a bill to amend the Disarmament Statute aims to expand firearm carry rights to several categories of public servants. Eligible groups include tax auditors, criminal experts, socio-educational agents, traffic agents, court officers, environmental inspectors, members of the Public Defender's Office, and public attorneys. The proposal stipulates that the use of these weapons is restricted to service hours and that the equipment must be owned and maintained by the respective institutions.
Second, the commission approved a bill to establish a National Protocol for the Investigation of Missing Children and Adolescents. The goal is to standardize police procedures nationwide following a disappearance notification. The protocol includes guidelines for immediate, short-term, and medium-term actions, and allows for the immediate dissemination of missing persons' data via cellular technology if there is a risk to the victim's life or physical integrity.
