Brazil Chamber of Deputies approves regulation for psychopedagogy

The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies has approved Bill 1675/23, establishing new regulations for the professional practice of psychopedagogy. Having already passed the Senate, the bill now awaits presidential sanction.

The legislation requires specific training for those practicing the profession. Individuals with degrees in psychology, pedagogy, licensure, or speech therapy may practice provided they complete a specialization in psychopedagogy. The law includes provisions for professionals who have been active in the field for up to one year and protects the rights of current psychopedagogues in both public and private sectors.

Key responsibilities defined in the bill include psychopedagogical intervention in educational and health contexts, conducting specialized assessments, and providing consultancy to identify learning difficulties. The law also establishes professional secrecy, noting that unauthorized sharing of data may lead to civil and criminal penalties.
