The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies has advanced several legislative measures concerning healthcare, child protection, and professional regulation.

One significant development involves the advancement of the Augusto Cury Law (Bill No. 5.815/2025), which proposes a national policy for the periodic monitoring of the physical and psychosocial health of children and adolescents. This program aims to use the Unified Health System (SUS) to detect early signs of abuse, neglect, and psychological distress.

In addition to child protection, the Chamber approved Bill 287/2024, establishing a national strategy to inspect and evaluate the quality of private healthcare services. This policy, which involves Anvisa, focuses on defining quality standards and ensuring patient safety and adequate staffing.

Furthermore, the Chamber approved Bill 1675/23 to regulate the professional practice of psychopedagogy. Having already passed the Senate, the bill requires practitioners to hold specific degrees in fields such as psychology or pedagogy alongside a specialization. The legislation defines professional responsibilities in educational and health contexts and establishes strict rules regarding professional secrecy.

Expanding on professional mental health regulations, the Commission on Human Rights and Participatory Legislation (CDH) has approved a proposal (SUG 01/2024) to restrict psychotherapy practice to qualified psychologists and doctors with psychiatric specialization. Following a favorable report from Senator Mara Gabrilli, the proposal mandates that practitioners hold active registration with professional councils and utilize scientifically proven methods. The regulation specifically excludes the practice of psychoanalysis and aims to prevent individuals from offering services without formal training or oversight.
