Brazil coffee harvest delays lift global Arabica prices

Heavy rains in Brazil have delayed the coffee harvest, reducing the supply of Arabica beans and prompting a rise in futures prices on the New York exchange. September 2026 contracts climbed 0.29% to US$2.7675 per pound, while other commodities such as cocoa, sugar and orange juice also saw gains.

Agricultural experts note that the climatic stress underscores the importance of balanced soil nutrition and robust root systems for coffee plants. Improved nutrient management and the use of slow‑release fertilizers can help farms maintain yield and bean quality despite irregular rainfall. The National Committee for Wetlands also approved recommendations to strengthen conservation of Brazil’s peatlands, a measure aimed at supporting long‑term ecosystem resilience.

These developments highlight the intertwined nature of climate impacts, farm practices, and international commodity markets.
