Brazil Commission advances priority funding for intangible cultural heritage

Brazil's Education and Culture Commission has approved a substitute text for Bill 3.061/2024, which aims to prioritize public funding for intangible cultural heritage. The proposal, introduced by Senator Camilo Santana, seeks to grant priority to cultural expressions that are currently undergoing or have completed the federal registration process conducted by the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (Iphan).

Under the approved text, priority support could be implemented through specific public notices, exclusive funding lines, quotas, or scoring bonuses. It also allows for differentiated procedures regarding the execution of funding instruments and accountability. This change would be integrated into the law establishing the National Culture System.
