Brazil community in Portugal nears 500,000 residents
The Brazilian community in Portugal is approaching 500,000 residents, according to the 2025 Migration and Asylum Report released by the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA). With 493,622 registered Brazilian nationals, the group accounts for 31.1% of the 1,585,854 total foreign residents in the country. This represents an increase of approximately 9,000 to 10,000 people compared to the previous year.
Brazilian nationals have remained the largest foreign community in Portugal for six consecutive years. While official AIMA figures exclude those with dual citizenship, other estimates suggest the total number of Brazilians living in Portugal could exceed 700,000.
Other significant foreign communities in Portugal include residents from Angola, India, Ukraine, Cape Verde, and Nepal. Nearly 50% of all foreign residents in Portugal originate from Lusophone countries. The report notes that the demographic of foreign residents is predominantly male (55.6%) and within the 18 to 64 age bracket (84.6%).
