Brazil considers health funding and cancer survivor employment bills

The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies is set to analyze Bill No. 6.231/2019, which aims to ensure the continuity of the National Program for Support to Oncological Care (Pronon) and the National Program for Support to the Health of Persons with Disabilities (Pronas/PCD). The bill seeks to extend tax incentives for individuals and corporations, allowing donations and sponsorships to be deducted from income tax. These programs fund strategic health actions, including cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation for people with disabilities.

Separately, a proposal in the Federal Senate (Bill No. 5.171/2026) seeks to facilitate the professional reintegration of cancer survivors. Authored by Senator Sargento Reginauro, the bill proposes amending the Public Procurement and Administrative Contracts Law to allow public bidding processes to require a minimum percentage of workers diagnosed with cancer. This measure aims to combat unemployment and social stigma faced by survivors returning to the workforce after clinical treatment.
