Overview

Brazil continues to address various cancer burdens through awareness campaigns, patient support, and legislative efforts. While previous efforts focused on head, neck, lung, and breast cancers, recent projections from the National Cancer Institute (Inca) indicate rising incidence in other areas.

Experts link these risks to obesity, sedentary lifestyles, and processed meat consumption, noting that colonoscopies are vital for improving cure rates.

To combat these trends, awareness campaigns such as ‘Setembro Verde’ and ‘Setembro em Flor’ are emphasizing early detection. These efforts complement ongoing legislative work, such as Bill No. 6.231/2019 regarding tax incentives for oncological care and Senate Bill No. 5.171/2026, which aims to increase employment opportunities for cancer survivors.
