Brazil consortium market reaches 13 million participants

The consortium market in Brazil has reached a significant milestone, with 13.36 million active participants recorded at the end of the first half of 2026. This represents a 12.6% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. According to the Brazilian Association of Consortium Administrators (ABAC), 2.82 million quotas were sold during this period, with total commercialized credits reaching R$ 278.99 billion.

Despite this growth, consumer understanding of the modality remains limited. A national survey by ABAC indicates that while 56% of respondents claim to know about consortiums, only 28% report knowing the system well or very well. This lack of clarity often leads to challenges when participants change plans or face financial difficulties.

Under Law No. 11,795/2008, rights and obligations from consortium contracts can be transferred to third parties, provided there is prior consent from the administrator. Companies like Fortal Consórcios specialize in this niche, facilitating the purchase of existing, non-contemplated quotas for individuals looking to exit their agreements.
