Brazil consortium market growth and evolution
Overview
The consortium market in Brazil is experiencing significant growth and evolving into a strategic tool for long-term financial and asset planning. In 2025, the system saw 5.16 million new memberships, a 15% increase over the previous year, with total credits traded reaching R$ 500 billion.
By the end of the first half of 2026, the market reached a milestone of 13.36 million active participants, representing a 12.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025. During this period, 2.82 million quotas were sold, totaling R$ 278.99 billion in commercialized credits.
Within this expansion, the real estate consortium segment has emerged as a major driver, gaining 870,000 participants over the last 12 months. This sector has moved into second place in the consortium system, trailing only light vehicles. Between July 2025 and July 2026, nearly two out of every three new participants joined real estate groups. While sales of real estate quotas rose by 40.8% from January to July, the average ticket price decreased, as consumers opted for smaller credit amounts to better fit their budgets.
Despite this growth, consumer knowledge remains a challenge. While 56% of survey respondents are aware of consortiums, only 28% report knowing the system well. Research by ABAC/Oki indicates specific consumer behaviors: nearly half of respondents consulted only one company before closing a deal, and one in five made their decision on the same day. Consequently, specialized services have emerged to facilitate the transfer of contract rights to third parties under Law No. 11,795/2008.
