Brazil court orders Method Telecom to pay 60.1 million reais for Oi fixed‑line unit
The 7th Business Court of Rio de Janeiro ruled that Method Telecom must deposit 60.1 million reais in cash for the acquisition of Oi's fixed‑line telephone services unit (STFC) that was sold in the bankruptcy process. The payment is required immediately, and a 50 % penalty will apply if the amount is not paid on time. Method argued that the price should be due only after the transaction’s closing and regulatory approvals, but the judge rejected the request for reconsideration and upheld both the deposit and the coercive fine. Oi has reported limited cash reserves and is seeking court approval to lay off employees without severance payments.
