Economic outlooks show mixed signals for Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia
Economic indicators across South America suggest varying levels of instability and growth. In Argentina, the University of San Andrés (UdeSA) Nowcast estimates a 2.66% seasonally adjusted GDP contraction for the third quarter, marking five consecutive weeks of decline.
In Brazil, economic forecasts for 2027 remain cautious. Analysts from FecomercioSP highlight risks including chronic fiscal deficits, high public debt, and high interest rates, which may limit consumption and tourism growth. While some projections suggest the economy could grow by approximately 2% in 2027, consumer confidence remains in negative territory according to FGV, as recent minor increases are viewed as natural oscillations rather than a trend reversal.
Colombia's Economic Perception Index (IPE) fell to its lowest level in a year during the third quarter. This decline is attributed to fiscal deficit concerns, the El Niño phenomenon, and the economic impact of an earthquake, alongside sustained high interest rates.
