Brazil education index shows growth in Peixoto de Azevedo and Curitiba

Recent data from the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb) shows significant educational progress in various Brazilian municipalities. In Peixoto de Azevedo, the municipal school network saw a 10.2% increase, rising from a 4.9 index in 2023 to 5.4 in 2025. All six municipal units in the city reported growth, with the Escola Municipal Vida e Esperança recording one of the largest jumps from 4.8 to 5.7.

On a larger scale, Curitiba has taken the top position among Brazilian capitals for the best performance in the Ideb 2025 for the early years of elementary school, tying with Teresina with an average score of 6.9. Curitiba also boasts four schools among the ten best-performing in the capitals. School directors attribute these high scores to factors such as teacher training, low staff turnover, and investments in reading incentives and remedial classes.
