Brazil implements national strategy to improve education

Regional progress remains varied. Paraná continues to lead the national ranking, while Curitiba tied with Teresina for the top position in early years elementary education. Despite these gains, national challenges persist, with data from Todos Pela Educação indicating that over 80% of 9th-grade students and 91% of high school students fail to reach adequate proficiency in mathematics.

To address these gaps, the Ministry of Education (MEC) has launched ‘Brasil Aprende+’, a national strategy utilizing data analysis and pedagogical monitoring. This initiative involves an eight-stage process designed to transform Ideb results into concrete actions, ranging from identifying challenges to monitoring school-level progress. To support this, the MEC launched a national mobilization called ‘Dia D’, scheduled from September 8 to 11, encouraging schools to dedicate time to analyzing learning gaps. The MEC also released four specialized guides via the Brasil Aprende+ platform for school networks, managers, coordinators, and teachers.

Implementation efforts have included meetings in Amazonas with state and municipal education representatives to discuss elementary education indicators. Kátia Schweickardt, the Secretary of Basic Education, emphasized the need for integrated participation between state and municipal governments. On a municipal level, Ubatuba has joined the National Teacher Exam (PND) to assist in future teacher selection processes.
