Brazil election deadline for transit voting ends Thursday
The deadline for Brazilian voters to request 'voto em trânsito' (transit voting) for the 2026 elections ends this Thursday, August 20. This mechanism allows voters to temporarily transfer their polling location to vote outside their home municipality.
Requests can be made online via the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) website through the 'Autoatendimento Eleitoral' portal or in person at electoral offices by presenting a photo ID. The service is available in all state capitals and municipalities with more than 100,000 voters.
The scope of voting depends on the destination: voters staying within the same state can vote for all contested offices, including president, governor, senator, and deputies. Those traveling to a different state may only vote for the presidency. The request can be made for the first or second round, or both, and can be applied to different cities for each round.
Additionally, the deadline also applies to those wishing to alter or cancel existing transit voting requests. Voters who request the benefit but fail to appear at the designated location must justify their absence via the e-Título app.
